لقي أربعة أطفال مصرعهم إلى جانب جدتهم داخل سيارة في ولاية أوهايو الأمريكية، إثر تعرضهم لتسمم حاد بغاز أول أكسيد الكربون، في حادثة مأساوية فتحت السلطات تحقيقاً لكشف تفاصيلها وملابساتها.
وبحسب التحقيقات الأولية، فإن الضحايا تعرضوا لتركيزات مرتفعة من الغاز السام أثناء وجودهم داخل المركبة التي تعطلت بعد انفجار أحد إطاراتها، ما أدى إلى بقائهم في ظروف تسببت في تراكم مستويات خطيرة من أول أكسيد الكربون.
وتعود تفاصيل الواقعة إلى تلقي والد الأطفال اتصالاً من جدتهم تطلب فيه المساعدة بعد تعرض السيارة لثقب في أحد الإطارات. وعند وصوله إلى الموقع، عثر على الأطفال وجدّتهم فاقدي الوعي داخل المركبة، ليسارع إلى طلب فرق الطوارئ.
وفور وصولها، باشرت فرق الإنقاذ محاولات الإنعاش وتقديم الإسعافات اللازمة، بالتزامن مع استدعاء فريق متخصص في التعامل مع المواد الخطرة، بعد الاشتباه بوجود غاز سام داخل السيارة.
وأظهرت الفحوصات الأولية أن تركيز أول أكسيد الكربون داخل المركبة وصل إلى مستويات خطيرة للغاية، إذ تجاوز الحد القاتل بعدة أضعاف، ما عزز فرضية وفاة الضحايا نتيجة التسمم بالغاز.
ولا تزال السلطات تواصل تحقيقاتها لتحديد جميع الظروف المحيطة، وسط تحذيرات متجددة من خطورة غاز أول أكسيد الكربون الذي يُعرف بصعوبة اكتشافه لكونه عديم اللون والرائحة.
Four children and their grandmother lost their lives inside a car in the state of Ohio, USA, after suffering acute poisoning from carbon monoxide gas, in a tragic incident that has prompted authorities to open an investigation to uncover its details and circumstances.
According to preliminary investigations, the victims were exposed to high concentrations of the toxic gas while inside the vehicle, which had broken down after one of its tires exploded, leading to conditions that caused dangerous levels of carbon monoxide to accumulate.
The details of the incident began when the children's father received a call from their grandmother asking for help after the car had a flat tire. Upon arriving at the scene, he found the children and their grandmother unconscious inside the vehicle and quickly called emergency teams.
As soon as they arrived, rescue teams began attempts at resuscitation and providing necessary first aid, while also calling in a specialized team to handle hazardous materials, after suspecting the presence of toxic gas inside the car.
Initial tests showed that the concentration of carbon monoxide inside the vehicle reached extremely dangerous levels, exceeding the lethal limit by several times, reinforcing the hypothesis that the victims died from gas poisoning.
Authorities are still continuing their investigations to determine all surrounding circumstances, amid renewed warnings about the dangers of carbon monoxide gas, which is known for being difficult to detect due to its colorless and odorless nature.
