أدان المبعوث الأممي إلى اليمن هانس غروندبرغ الهجمات الأخيرة التي نفذها الحوثيون في مأرب وحضرموت، وما أسفرت عنه من خسائر كبيرة، بينها مدنيون، محذراً من أن هذه الهجمات، إلى جانب استهداف الشحن التجاري في البحر الأحمر وخليج عدن، تهدد بإعادة اليمن إلى نزاع واسع النطاق.

وقال غروندبرغ في بيان نشره اليوم (الجمعة) على حسابه في «إكس»: «يواجه اليمن اليوم خطراً أكبر لتجدد النزاع واسع النطاق مما كان عليه في أي نقطة منذ وقف إطلاق النار الذي توسطت فيه الأمم المتحدة في أبريل 2022».

وأعرب المبعوث الأممي عن قلقه من الهجمات الحوثية، ومن الضربات التي تستهدف البنية التحتية المدنية، بما في ذلك المطارات، إضافة إلى التوترات الإقليمية المتزايدة، مؤكداً أن هذه التطورات مجتمعة تهدد مكاسب وقف إطلاق النار لعام 2022، وتجر البلاد إلى مواجهة إقليمية أوسع «مع عواقب مدمرة على شعبها».

ودعا غروندبرغ الأطراف اليمنية إلى ممارسة أقصى درجات ضبط النفس، ووقف الإجراءات التي تشجع على الرد العسكري، والانخراط في مفاوضات بحسن نية تحت رعاية الأمم المتحدة، بدعم من الجهات الإقليمية والشركاء الدوليين.

وأوضح أنه أجرى خلال الأسابيع الماضية اتصالات مكثفة مع الأطراف اليمنية والجهات الإقليمية والشركاء الدوليين، لاستكشاف خيارات ملموسة لخفض التصعيد وعكس المسار الحالي، مؤكداً بقاء المسار الدبلوماسي متاحاً.

وشدد على أن الوصول إلى هذا المسار يتطلب إرادة سياسية وخيارات صعبة وإشراكاً حقيقياً من الأطراف، معتبراً أن النهج التفاوضي «يقدم المسار الواقعي الوحيد» لمعالجة الهموم الأساسية للأطراف، وتحقيق فوائد ملموسة لليمنيين، تشمل خفض التصعيد العسكري وتحسين الاستقرار الاقتصادي، بما في ذلك حرية حركة الأشخاص والبضائع، إلى جانب خطوات نحو عملية سياسية شاملة تنهي النزاع.

وأكد غروندبرغ استمرار الأمم المتحدة في دعم الأطراف والوقوف إلى جانب الشعب اليمني في سعيه لإيجاد حل سلمي للنزاع.

من جهة أخرى، أدان الاتحاد الأوروبي بشدة هجمات الحوثيين في اليمن والسعودية، مطالباً بالتوقف الفوري عن جميع الهجمات، مؤكداً أن استهداف المدنيين والبنية التحتية المدنية غير مقبول، ويهدد الاستقرار الإقليمي والجهود الرامية إلى التوصل إلى حل سلمي.

The UN envoy to Yemen, Hans Grundberg, condemned the recent attacks carried out by the Houthis in Marib and Hadramout, which resulted in significant losses, including civilians, warning that these attacks, along with targeting commercial shipping in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden, threaten to bring Yemen back into a large-scale conflict.

Grundberg stated in a statement published today (Friday) on his account on "X": "Yemen today faces a greater risk of renewed large-scale conflict than at any point since the UN-mediated ceasefire in April 2022."

The UN envoy expressed his concern over the Houthi attacks and the strikes targeting civilian infrastructure, including airports, in addition to the increasing regional tensions, emphasizing that these developments collectively threaten the gains of the 2022 ceasefire and drag the country into a broader regional confrontation "with devastating consequences for its people."

Grundberg called on the Yemeni parties to exercise maximum restraint, to halt actions that encourage military responses, and to engage in good faith negotiations under the auspices of the United Nations, supported by regional actors and international partners.

He explained that he had conducted intensive communications over the past weeks with the Yemeni parties, regional entities, and international partners to explore concrete options for de-escalation and reversing the current trajectory, affirming that the diplomatic path remains available.

He stressed that reaching this path requires political will, difficult choices, and genuine engagement from the parties, considering that the negotiating approach "provides the only realistic pathway" to address the core concerns of the parties and achieve tangible benefits for Yemenis, including military de-escalation and improving economic stability, including freedom of movement for people and goods, alongside steps towards a comprehensive political process to end the conflict.

Grundberg affirmed the UN's continued support for the parties and its solidarity with the Yemeni people in their quest for a peaceful resolution to the conflict.

On another note, the European Union strongly condemned the Houthi attacks in Yemen and Saudi Arabia, demanding an immediate halt to all attacks, affirming that targeting civilians and civilian infrastructure is unacceptable and threatens regional stability and efforts to reach a peaceful solution.
