أعلنت السلطات الفنزويلية، اليوم، ارتفاع حصيلة ضحايا الزلزالين المدمرين اللذين ضربا البلاد الشهر الماضي إلى 4930 قتيلاً، في أحدث إحصائية رسمية تعكس حجم الكارثة الإنسانية التي خلفها الزلزالان، بينما لا تزال آلاف الأسر تعاني من آثار الدمار وفقدان المأوى.

وقال رئيس الجمعية الوطنية الفنزويلية، خورخي رودريجيز، إن عدد الوفيات ارتفع من 4490 قتيلاً في الإحصائية السابقة إلى 4930 قتيلاً، فيما استقر عدد المصابين عند 16740 شخصاً، بينما لا يزال 17907 أشخاص بلا مأوى نتيجة الدمار الواسع الذي ألحقه الزلزالان بالمناطق المتضررة.

وكانت فنزويلا قد تعرضت في 24 يونيو الماضي لزلزالين قويين بلغت قوة الأول 7.2 درجة والثاني 7.5 درجة على مقياس ريختر، ووقعا بفاصل زمني لم يتجاوز 39 ثانية، ما ضاعف من حجم الأضرار والانهيارات، خاصة في المناطق الشمالية من البلاد.

وتواصل السلطات الفنزويلية عمليات الإغاثة وإزالة الأنقاض وتقديم المساعدات للمتضررين، في وقت تواجه فيه فرق الإنقاذ تحديات كبيرة بسبب اتساع رقعة الدمار، واحتياج آلاف الأسر إلى مساكن مؤقتة وخدمات صحية وإمدادات غذائية.

ويُعد الزلزالان اللذان ضربا شمال فنزويلا في 24 يونيو من أكثر الكوارث الطبيعية دموية التي شهدتها البلاد خلال العقود الأخيرة، إذ تسببت شدتهما الكبيرة وتتابعهما خلال أقل من دقيقة في انهيار أعداد كبيرة من المباني والمنشآت، فضلاً عن تضرر البنية التحتية وشبكات الطرق والكهرباء والاتصالات.

وعادة ما تؤدي الزلازل المتعاقبة أو ما يُعرف بـ«الزلازل المزدوجة» إلى زيادة الخسائر البشرية والمادية، إذ تُضعف الهزة الأولى المباني، بينما تتسبب الثانية في انهيار الكثير منها، ما يصعّب عمليات الإجلاء والإنقاذ ويرفع من أعداد الضحايا والمصابين.

كما تشير تجارب الكوارث الكبرى إلى أن حصيلة الضحايا قد تستمر في الارتفاع خلال الأسابيع التالية مع انتشال مزيد من الجثامين من تحت الأنقاض واستكمال عمليات التحقق من المفقودين.

The Venezuelan authorities announced today that the death toll from the two devastating earthquakes that struck the country last month has risen to 4,930, according to the latest official statistics reflecting the scale of the humanitarian disaster caused by the earthquakes, while thousands of families continue to suffer from the effects of the destruction and loss of shelter.

Venezuelan National Assembly President Jorge Rodriguez stated that the number of fatalities has increased from 4,490 in the previous report to 4,930, while the number of injured remains at 16,740, and 17,907 people are still homeless due to the extensive destruction caused by the earthquakes in the affected areas.

Venezuela experienced two powerful earthquakes on June 24, with the first measuring 7.2 and the second 7.5 on the Richter scale, occurring within a time interval of no more than 39 seconds, which exacerbated the extent of the damage and collapses, especially in the northern regions of the country.

The Venezuelan authorities continue their relief operations, debris removal, and assistance to the affected, while rescue teams face significant challenges due to the vast area of destruction, with thousands of families in need of temporary housing, healthcare services, and food supplies.

The earthquakes that struck northern Venezuela on June 24 are among the deadliest natural disasters the country has experienced in recent decades, as their significant intensity and occurrence within less than a minute led to the collapse of a large number of buildings and facilities, in addition to damaging infrastructure and networks of roads, electricity, and communications.

Typically, successive earthquakes, or what is known as "double earthquakes," lead to increased human and material losses, as the first tremor weakens buildings, while the second causes many of them to collapse, complicating evacuation and rescue operations and raising the number of casualties and injuries.

Moreover, experiences from major disasters indicate that the death toll may continue to rise in the following weeks as more bodies are recovered from the rubble and efforts to verify the missing are completed.
