لقي 12 شخصاً على الأقل مصرعهم، فيما أصيب ستة آخرون، إثر اندلاع حريق غابات واسع النطاق في بلدة «لوس غالاردوس» التابعة لمقاطعة ألميريا في إقليم الأندلس جنوب شرقي إسبانيا، في واحدة من أكثر حرائق الغابات دموية التي تشهدها البلاد هذا الصيف.

وأعرب رئيس حكومة الأندلس، خوانما مورينو، عن حزنه العميق إزاء سقوط الضحايا، واصفاً الحادث بأنه «مأساة»، مؤكداً تضامن السلطات الإقليمية مع أسر القتلى والمصابين، في وقت تتواصل فيه جهود فرق الطوارئ للسيطرة على النيران.

ويشارك نحو 150 من رجال الإطفاء في عمليات مكافحة الحريق، بينما تم نقل اثنين من المصابين إلى المستشفى لتلقي العلاج، في حين يواصل رجال الإنقاذ جهودهم لمنع امتداد ألسنة اللهب إلى مناطق سكنية وغابات مجاورة.

ورجح شهود عيان أن يكون الحريق قد اندلع بعد سقوط أحد خطوط الكهرباء، ما أدى إلى اشتعال النيران وانتشارها بسرعة كبيرة في الغطاء النباتي الجاف، إلا أن السلطات الإسبانية لم تؤكد بعد السبب الرسمي للحريق، وأعلنت فتح تحقيق للوقوف على ملابساته.

ويأتي الحريق في ظل موجة حر شديدة تضرب جنوب أوروبا، حيث اقتربت درجات الحرارة في بعض المناطق الإسبانية من 40 درجة مئوية، وهو ما وفر ظروفًا مثالية لاندلاع حرائق الغابات وانتشارها بوتيرة سريعة بفعل الجفاف والرياح.

وتشهد إسبانيا خلال السنوات الأخيرة تصاعداً ملحوظاً في حرائق الغابات، خاصة خلال أشهر الصيف، نتيجة الارتفاع القياسي في درجات الحرارة وتكرار موجات الجفاف المرتبطة بالتغيرات المناخية، ما يجعل البلاد من أكثر الدول الأوروبية تعرضاً لهذه الكوارث الطبيعية.

ويعد إقليم الأندلس من أكثر المناطق الإسبانية هشاشة أمام حرائق الغابات، نظراً لامتداده الجغرافي الواسع وكثافة غطائه النباتي ومناخه الحار والجاف، الأمر الذي يدفع السلطات إلى رفع درجات التأهب خلال فصل الصيف ونشر مئات من رجال الإطفاء والطائرات المخصصة لإخماد الحرائق.

ولا تقتصر أزمة الحرائق على إسبانيا وحدها، إذ تشهد عدة دول في جنوب أوروبا، من بينها اليونان والبرتغال وإيطاليا، حرائق متكررة كل صيف، مدفوعة بارتفاع درجات الحرارة ونقص الأمطار، وهو ما دفع خبراء المناخ إلى التحذير من أن الظواهر الجوية المتطرفة ستصبح أكثر تكراراً وشدة خلال السنوات القادمة، ما يفرض تحديات متزايدة على أنظمة الحماية المدنية وإدارة الكوارث.

At least 12 people have died, while six others were injured, due to a large-scale wildfire that broke out in the town of "Los Gallardos" in the province of Almería in the Andalusia region of southeastern Spain, in one of the deadliest wildfires the country has witnessed this summer.

The President of the Andalusian Government, Juanma Moreno, expressed his deep sorrow over the loss of life, describing the incident as a "tragedy," and affirming the regional authorities' solidarity with the families of the victims and the injured, as emergency teams continue their efforts to control the flames.

About 150 firefighters are participating in the firefighting operations, while two of the injured have been taken to the hospital for treatment, as rescue teams continue their efforts to prevent the flames from spreading to residential areas and nearby forests.

Eyewitnesses suggested that the fire may have started after one of the power lines fell, leading to the ignition of the flames and their rapid spread through the dry vegetation. However, Spanish authorities have not yet confirmed the official cause of the fire and have announced an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding it.

The fire comes amid a severe heatwave affecting southern Europe, where temperatures in some Spanish regions have approached 40 degrees Celsius, creating ideal conditions for wildfires to ignite and spread quickly due to drought and winds.

In recent years, Spain has witnessed a noticeable increase in wildfires, especially during the summer months, due to record-high temperatures and recurring droughts linked to climate change, making the country one of the most affected European nations by these natural disasters.

The Andalusia region is among the most vulnerable areas in Spain to wildfires, due to its extensive geographical spread, dense vegetation cover, and hot, dry climate, prompting authorities to raise alert levels during the summer and deploy hundreds of firefighters and aircraft dedicated to extinguishing fires.

The wildfire crisis is not limited to Spain alone, as several countries in southern Europe, including Greece, Portugal, and Italy, experience recurring fires every summer, driven by rising temperatures and a lack of rainfall. This has led climate experts to warn that extreme weather events will become more frequent and intense in the coming years, posing increasing challenges for civil protection systems and disaster management.
