خيّم الحزن على الوسط الكروي في جنوب أفريقيا عقب الإعلان عن وفاة لاعب خط وسط منتخب جنوب أفريقيا ونادي ماميلودي صن داونز جايدن أدامز عن عمر 25 عاماً، وذلك بعد أيام قليلة من انتهاء مشاركته مع منتخب بلاده في كأس العالم 2026.

وأعربت رابطة لاعبي كرة القدم في جنوب أفريقيا عن أسفها العميق لرحيل اللاعب، مؤكدة في بيان نشرته عبر منصة «إكس» أن الأسرة الرياضية فقدت أحد أبرز لاعبيها في سن مبكرة. وحتى الآن، لم يصدر نادي ماميلودي صن داونز بياناً رسمياً بشأن الوفاة، كما لم تُكشف أسبابها.

وقال قائد منتخب جنوب أفريقيا السابق دكتور خومالو إن أدامز تلقى قبل إحدى مباريات منتخب بلاده في البطولة نبأ وفاة جدته، وذلك قبل ساعات من مواجهة التشيك في دور المجموعات.

وشارك لاعب الوسط مع منتخب جنوب أفريقيا في نهائيات كأس العالم 2026، حيث خاض المباريات الثلاث في دور المجموعات، فيما بقي على مقاعد البدلاء خلال مواجهة كندا في دور الـ32، التي انتهت بخسارة منتخب بلاده بهدف دون رد، ليودع البطولة.

وبعد انتهاء مشاركة المنتخب، حصل أدامز مع 7 من زملائه في ماميلودي صن داونز، الذين شاركوا أيضاً في كأس العالم، على إجازة إضافية لمدة أسبوعين، وكان من المقرر أن يلتحق بمعسكر الفريق الإعدادي للموسم الجديد في النمسا خلال الأسبوع القادم تحت قيادة المدرب ميغيل كاردوسو، قبل أن تضع وفاته المفاجئة نهاية مأساوية لمسيرته الكروية.

Sadness has enveloped the football community in South Africa following the announcement of the death of midfielder for the South African national team and Mamelodi Sundowns, Jayden Adams, at the age of 25, just days after completing his participation with his national team in the 2026 World Cup.

The South African Football Players' Association expressed its deep sorrow over the player's passing, stating in a statement published on the platform "X" that the sports family has lost one of its most prominent players at a young age. So far, Mamelodi Sundowns has not issued an official statement regarding the death, nor have the causes been revealed.

Former South African national team captain Doctor Khumalo said that Adams received the news of his grandmother's death before one of his national team's matches in the tournament, just hours before facing the Czech Republic in the group stage.

The midfielder participated with the South African national team in the 2026 World Cup, where he played all three matches in the group stage, while he remained on the bench during the match against Canada in the Round of 32, which ended in a loss for his national team by a score of 1-0, thus exiting the tournament.

After the national team's participation ended, Adams, along with 7 of his teammates at Mamelodi Sundowns, who also participated in the World Cup, received an additional two-week vacation. He was scheduled to join the team's training camp for the new season in Austria the following week under the guidance of coach Miguel Cardoso, before his sudden death brought a tragic end to his football career.
