تحول ليل إحدى أكثر الثكنات العسكرية انضباطاً في المملكة المتحدة إلى مسرح لكابوس مجنزَر، بعدما قرر جنديان بريطانيان اختتام سهرتهما الليلية بـ«جولة دهس» طائشة داخل المعسكر.

الحادثة التي وقعت فجر 24 يوليو في ثكنة «سوينتون» بمنطقة بيرهام داون (مقر الفوج 26 للمهندسين) أثارت حالة من الفزع والذهول بين الجنود والقيادات العسكرية، بعدما استفاق الجميع على مشاهد دمار مروعة طالت سياراتهم الخاصة.

بدأت الدراما العبثية في تمام الساعة الواحدة فجراً، عندما عاد الجنديان إلى معسكرهما وهما في حالة سكر شديد عقب قضاء سهرة خارج الثكنة. وفي لحظة طيش غابت فيها كل قواعد الانضباط العسكري:

الاختراق والسحب: تسلل الجنديان إلى ساحة الآليات واستوليا على مدرعة مقاتلة مجنزرة من طراز Bulldog، يصل وزنها إلى 15 طناً. انطلاق جنوني: اندفعت المدرعة الثقيلة بسرعة عالية في ممر ضيق داخل الثكنة، مخصص لركن السيارات الشخصية للضباط والجنود. فقدان التوازن: أظهرت مقاطع الفيديو التناقض الصارخ بين ثقل المدرعة المصممة لحروب الشوارع، وسائق سكران يترنح بها يميناً ويساراً دون قدرة على السيطرة.

لم تمضِ سوى دقائق معدودة حتى تحول الشارع الضيق إلى ساحة تحطيم، وفي طوفان سحق بالكامل تحولت شاحنة صغيرة وسيارة رياضية متعددة الاستخدامات (SUV) إلى «عجينة معدنية» تحت جنزير المدرعة الصليبة. كما تسببا في خسائر متعددة، إذ تعرضت عدة سيارات أخرى لتهشيم وأضرار جسيمة جراء الاحتكاك والاصطدام المباشر. لكن المفارقة أنه في حين تحطمت مركبات أفراد الجيش، خرجت المدرعة القتالية من «الجولة الكحولية» دون أي خدش يُذكر!

المشهد الأكثر غرابة في هذه الليلة المجنونة تمثل في تصرف السائق عقب الانتهاء من نوبة التدمير، حيث قام بإعادة المدرعة الـ 15 طناً إلى موضعها وركنها بمنتهى الدقة والهدوء، قبل أن يتسلل إلى غرفته لينام وكأن شيئاً لم يكن!

ومع إشراق الفجر واكتشاف أفراد الجيش لحجم الدمار الذي حل بسياراتهم، سارعت الشرطة العسكرية الملكية بإلقاء القبض على الجندي السائق وزمليه المشارك، ليواجه كلاهما تحقيقات عسكرية ومحاكمة صارمة بتهم قيادة آلية حربية تحت تأثير المسكرات وتدمير ممتلكات الجيش والضباط.

The night turned one of the most disciplined military barracks in the United Kingdom into a scene of a mechanical nightmare, after two British soldiers decided to conclude their night out with a reckless "run over" inside the camp.

The incident, which occurred in the early hours of July 24 at the "Swinton" barracks in the Perham Down area (home of the 26th Engineer Regiment), sparked panic and shock among soldiers and military leaders, as everyone awoke to horrifying scenes of destruction affecting their personal vehicles.

The absurd drama began at one o'clock in the morning when the two soldiers returned to their barracks in a state of heavy intoxication after spending the night out. In a moment of folly where all military discipline vanished:

Infiltration and theft: The two soldiers sneaked into the vehicle yard and seized a Bulldog armored fighting vehicle weighing 15 tons. Crazy launch: The heavy armored vehicle sped down a narrow corridor inside the barracks, designated for parking the personal cars of officers and soldiers. Losing balance: Video footage showed the stark contrast between the weight of the armored vehicle designed for street warfare and a drunken driver swaying it left and right with no ability to control it.

It took only a few minutes for the narrow street to turn into a demolition site, and in a crushing flood, a small truck and an SUV were turned into "metal mush" under the tracks of the armored vehicle. They also caused multiple damages, as several other cars sustained severe smashing and damage due to friction and direct collision. Ironically, while the vehicles of the army personnel were destroyed, the combat vehicle emerged from the "boozy tour" without a scratch!

The strangest scene of that crazy night was the driver's behavior after finishing the spree of destruction, as he returned the 15-ton armored vehicle to its spot and parked it with utmost precision and calm, before sneaking off to his room to sleep as if nothing had happened!

With the dawn breaking and the army personnel discovering the extent of the destruction that had befallen their vehicles, the Royal Military Police quickly arrested the driving soldier and his accomplice, both of whom now face military investigations and a strict trial on charges of operating a military vehicle under the influence of alcohol and destroying army and officers' property.
