ما إن انتهت مواجهة الأرجنتين وإنجلترا ضمن نصف نهائي كأس العالم، بفوز الأول بهدفين مقابل هدف، قام لاعبو التانغو برفع لافتة كُتب عليها: جزر فوكلاند أرجنتينية.

وتُعد مسألة السيادة على الجزر الواقعة في جنوب المحيط الأطلسي، والتي يعرفها البريطانيون باسم جزر فوكلاند، بينما يسميها الأرجنتينيون جزر مالفيناس، إحدى أبرز نقاط الخلاف التاريخية بين البلدين.

وخاضت الأرجنتين وبريطانيا حربًا قصيرة حول الجزر عام 1982، قُتل خلالها 649 جنديًا أرجنتينيًّا و255 عسكريًّا بريطانيًّا، وانتهت بسيطرة بريطانيا على الجزر.

وتؤكد الأرجنتين منذ سنوات أنها ورثت السيادة على الجزر عن إسبانيا بعد استقلالها عام 1816، وأن بريطانيا فرضت سيطرتها عليها عام 1833 في خطوة تعتبرها بوينس آيرس غير قانونية.

وتحظر لوائح الاتحاد الدولي لكرة القدم (فيفا) استخدام الشعارات أو الرسائل ذات الطابع السياسي في مباريات كرة القدم، كما تنص على إمكانية فرض عقوبات على الاتحادات أو الأندية أو اللاعبين في حال مخالفة هذه اللوائح.

وبحسب ما أوردته التقارير، فمن المحتمل أن يواجه الاتحاد الأرجنتيني لكرة القدم عقوبات من «فيفا»، على خلفية رفع لاعبي المنتخب تلك اللافتة.

وأشارت التقارير إلى أن العقوبة، في حال صدورها، قد تقتصر على غرامة مالية بحق الاتحاد الأرجنتيني، دون توقيع عقوبات تأديبية على اللاعبين.

وسبق للاتحاد الدولي لكرة القدم (فيفا) أن طالب اتحاد هايتي لكرة القدم بتعديل شعار منتخب البلاد، بعدما اعتبر أنه يحمل دلالات سياسية.

Reports indicated that the penalty, if issued, may be limited to a financial fine against the Argentine federation, without imposing disciplinary sanctions on the players.
